What Readers Should Know Before Starting the Multimedia Edition
The Multimedia Edition of Cedar Hollow Promises was designed to be intuitive — but knowing a few things before you begin will make the experience richer. Here's how to get the most out of it.
Cedar Hollow Promises is designed to be read in more than one dimension.
The standard edition is the novel itself — 21 chapters, three alternate timelines, two character reflections, and the structural appendices that lay out what Lena and Malik's story means beyond the personal. That alone is complete.
But the Multimedia Edition adds a second layer that runs alongside the reading experience from the very first page.
The Soundtrack
Every major transition in Cedar Hollow Promises has a "Now Playing" moment — a song title and a single thematic line that appears just before or after a scene shift. These 13 tracks are not ambient background music. Each one is purpose-built for the narrative moment it accompanies.
In the Multimedia Edition, QR codes placed throughout the book unlock each track at the exact moment the story calls for it. You read. You scan. The music begins. "Still We Rise (Cedar Hollow)" opens the book before the first chapter starts. "Emptiness" arrives after Jalen dies. "Because of You" plays near the end, carrying everything you've just witnessed.
The Witness Prompts
The "Ask The Witness" prompts appear throughout the novel — at key inflection points in the story. In the standard edition, they are reading pauses. In the Multimedia Edition, they are interactive: the Witness speaks, and you can respond, reflect, or explore the question through a companion experience.
The Deep Edition of these prompts, found at the back of the book, goes further — directly asking the reader to place themselves inside Malik's situation and Lena's choices.
A Note on Pace
Cedar Hollow Promises rewards slow reading. The alternate timelines are not distractions from the main story — they are arguments about it. The System Impact Appendix is not supplemental material — it is part of the novel's thesis. The Witness prompts are not optional pauses — they are the moments the story asks you to stop watching and start deciding what you think.
The Multimedia Edition makes that invitation explicit. Let it.
